I was born in 1985. If my parents had tried to give me a “1950s summer” I would’ve been annoyed. Can’t we just be in the moment? It’s 2025. Technology has advanced and it’s part of our world now. We can limit it and still enjoy person to person contact. There is a balance to strike - no need to try to make our kids experience the same exact life we did. Thank you for writing this!
Love love love this. And needed to read it today on the first official non-weekend day of summer! Also, I fear our summer song will be Skibbidy Toilet 🤣/😱
When my kids were younger (tween & teen now) at the beginning of the summer holidays we used to write a wish list of things they wanted to do. The first time I did it I was a bit nervous about what they would want to do but actually they didn't list big days out. The things they wanted to do were really simple like go to a new playground that we'd driven past, go strawberry picking, bake cupcakes to take on a picnic, have a sleepover at their aunties or grannys house, go for a family bike ride etc. We'd spend the summer using the list for inspiration and ticking things off if we did them. I don't think we did it last year but I might suggest we do it again this year!
I love this! My kids are a little older now. We did a lot of repetitive outings over the summers and holidays and I remember feeling guilty about not coming up with new and exciting activities or places to visit. But we have very happy memories of our ‘favourite spots’ now.
Saved this! Will definitely be rereading as soon as school is out! I am going to try the lists (pictures for my pre readers) and I love the reminder of going to the same places!
