Something Playful #10
When You Feel Hopeless, Do Something Small/ Why I Still Post Affiliate Links (and What It Makes Possible)/ What’s In My Cart and Already in My Home/Sale Tees & Soft Pajamas
I woke up feeling anxious and heartbroken this morning. Between the bill that was passed last week (I can’t even say it without sputtering a long slew of curse words) and the tragedy in Mystic, Texas, I was feeling anything but playful this morning.
Last week, after the bill passed, I felt so hopeless, so helpless, that I picked my ass up and marched it straight to the local food pantry to spend a few hours stocking shelves and assisting clients with their groceries. With Ruby (my 15-year-old) by my side, I felt a teeny tiny flutter of hope. I watched her use her broken Spanish and bright smile to confidently interact with and support humans who need it more than ever right now. It helped them and it helped me.
If you are feeling hopeless, reach out and do something in your local community. It doesn’t have to be the food pantry; it can be making phone calls or even having your little kids make cards and pictures to drop off at your local nursing home. Just do something. It’s powerful and it helps.
This week, your feed is going to be full of Prime Day deals. Influencers pushing sales like it’s their job... because it is. Every year, I go back and forth about whether or not to join in. Part of me doesn’t want to contribute to Amazon’s billion-dollar pockets or the pressure to constantly buy more stuff.
But the truth is, the income I make from affiliate links is what helps me keep TWFC going. It’s what allows me to share helpful, free content without putting everything behind a paywall. So yes, I’ll be posting some sales this week. But I promise, if I share it, it’s something I actually think is worth it.
Many of the following things are marked down, but not all. Instead of chasing sales and justifying buying them “because they’re so cheap!” I am sharing things I love and things I think you’ll love and use. If you choose to purchase, thank you for using my link.
Some of my favorite things:
Bioderma oil- I love this, and so does my teen daughter. I bought it last winter to combat dry skin, and now I can’t live without it. It’s like baby oil, but you wash it off and the hydration lasts without any greasiness.
Leather belt-I’ve been trying to get back into wearing belts because they really do pull an outfit together with almost no effort. I didn’t want to splurge on something I wasn’t sure I’d actually wear, so I started with this one, and I love it. I tried a few others, but they felt cheap and went straight back.
Bubble Initial Bead Necklace for my tween and as birthday gifts for her friends.
These self-adhesive letter patches are so cute on a backpack, a towel or a sweatshirt. I used them to personalize camp items for my tween.
I hate the feeling of no-show socks. They always roll down or shift in my shoe, and it makes me crazy. Instead, I use these cedar inserts and wear my sneakers barefoot. I’ve been using them for years, and you have to replace them every few months, but they are a total game-changer if you hate wearing socks but don’t want sweaty, stinky feet and sneakers.
These colored shoelaces make any sneakers feel cooler. I wear them, and so does my tween.
This cryo mask is my go-to when I wake up puffy. I use it all year round. It’s like a cold plunge for your face without the icy water. The price tag is hefty but it lasts a really long time because a tiny bit goes a long way.
Summer uniform on repeat, I have it in brown and yellow. This dress is my favorite.
I always wear this in summer. Bronzer and sunscreen in one.
I found my holy grail white t-shirt, and it’s ten dollars! I bought three.
I used to love buying on-sale t-shirts for the kids mid-summer and then keeping them for back to school. It is always still hot when they go back, but they’ve already stained and outgrown their summer clothes. Buying sale t-shirts always felt like a good way to save some money and not send them off with ice cream and dirt-stained clothes.
5 pack t-shirts / short-sleeve garment-dyed tee / Striped t-shirt /
Dusty pink loose t-shirt / Racer back ribbed tank / Short-sleeved pointelle top
Kids grow like weeds in the summer. Sun, fresh air, and double scoops of ice cream usually mean it is time to refresh their pajama drawers. There’s nothing quite like your child freshly bathed, with damp hair and in the cutest pajamas. I miss having littles. Here are some of my favorite pajamas.
Ruffle PJs / Strawberry PJs / Cloud PJs / 2 Piece Set / Ribbed PJs / Gingham Set
That’s it for links, thanks for supporting me.
